Viva La Vegan Grocery Store Grand Opening This Weekend!!

Rancho Cucamonga has an all Vegan. Cruelty-Free grocery store? Heck yeah it does!
Viva La Vegan, the inland empire's first all Vegan grocery and clothing store will be having their grand opening this Saturday Jan 29. Viva La Vegan is a cruelty-free grocery store. They offer organic, raw, gluten-free, soy-free and paraben-free products. With a line of cruelty-free purses, wallets, belts, and shoes. The store has quietly been open now for about a month, as they've been building their inventory.

Until now local vegans were forced to sniff around major chain stores to find vegan products or shop at "all natural" stores like Henry's or Trader Joe's. Those stores have some items but not most of the best stuff. To find all the best vegan food products all in one place you would have to go to the Loma Linda market or Sprouts in Upland. In the last ten years "all natural" grocery stores have become more popular. People want organic and specialty foods, "free range" meat and dairy from small farms. All the chain stores and even Wal-Mart have started carrying vegetarian and vegan products. In almost every store, including "all natural" ones like Henry's and Trader Joe's there's a really only handful of veggie/vegan products, you see just about the same stuff in every store. Usually everything is ridiculously marked up. So if a consumer who wouldn't normally try something vegan is curious, they won't because of the high price. This also contributes to the myth that "being vegan is expensive".  It's because the only people buying it are the vegans who have to stop by five different places in an attempt to get everything on their grocery list. The price of vegan merchandise has gone down a lot as more people go vegan or try it out. There's more products and companies. Vegan substitutes for food clothing, everything.

It's good to see Viva La Vegan and other vegan alternative stores and restaurants opening in Rancho Cucamonga. The demand for vegan food is growing, so that means people are becoming conscious of their own health and be well-being of animals and the earth. Fewer people want to poison themselves and their kids with processed and fast food. Vegan companies are making better tasting products and more varieties. Like Daiya cheddar mozzarella cheese, the best cheese alternative I've tasted. When I went vegan almost four years ago the hardest thing to part with was cheese pizza, and good vegan cheese is hard to come by. Now I can go up to Viva La Vegan and get a bag of it and cook my own vegan pizza. Some of the things I would suggest a non-vegan should try first would be any of the  "Loma Linda" canned fake meats like vegan "franks" and "ground beef". Anything from Tofurkey, their sausages and sandwich slices or just a whole Tofurkey. With snacks my personal favorite is Stonewall's Jerquee. It's tofu Jerky that comes in a variety of flavors like Pastrami, BBQ, Teriyaki. Bocca burger patties, vegan corn dogs, burritos, taquitos. Lastly, Veganaise, made with grape seed oil, the vegan substitute for mayo (made with eggs, gross!).
